By the release of 'Goldfinger' in 1964 Eon was already steering away from literary Bond as the budgets began to increase. The genesis of the 'Thunderball' screenplay had been a complicated affair: it was based on a story outline summarised by Ernest Cuneo with contributions by Kevin McClory, Jack Whittingham and Ian Fleming. This in turn was transformed into an original screenplay by Jack Whittingham, which was subsequently revised for Eon by Richard Maibaum and latterly by John Hopkins. It was originally planned that this film would be the first produced by Saltzman and Broccoli but the surrounding litigation prevented it. Having been awarded the film rights to the story in 1963, Kevin McClory gradually realised it was more beneficial to join forces with Saltzman and Broccoli rather than compete with them - especially since they had Sean Connery and an already successful series of films. 'Thunderball' went on to become (allowing for inflation) the highest grossing James Bond film of all time. It was the biggest James Bond film at the cinema thanks to several different factors: The series was now riding the global mania for anything and everything James Bond, as a result of the success and influence of 'Goldfinger'. Additionally, 'Thunderball' was promoted heavily around the world. With the success of the DB5 in 'Goldfinger', this film heralded an increased reliance in gadgets: the Bell Jet pack, the return of the said DB5, Volpe's rocket-firing bike, 'Q' equiping in the field, SPECTREs underwater craft and the 'Disco Volante' - gadgets gone mad. Terence Young, Ken Adam, Ted Moore, Peter Hunt, John Stears, John Barry and others gave the film style and class. It was the first Bond film of the series to be filmed in the widescreen process, Panavision. As a result, its varied sequences come across as truly epic - the French chateau, SPECTRE's Paris 'lounge', Shrublands and the majestic MI6 conference hall. Bond also jetted to the Bahamas - sampling night-life at Cafe Martinique, Casino, the Junkanoo procession in Nassau and went underwater for the first time, superbly captured by Ricou Browning and his team of photographers. One of my favourite films, this site is dedicated to a James Bond classic. Sadly, most of the websites that were the inspiration for this site have since disappeared from the internet. As you can see I've tidied up the Home page and added some new artwork. The main update this time around is the return of the Others section - covering all films including Casino Royale and Never Say Never Again.

Since the last upload in July, NBCi has stopped their web hosting and it has taken a bit of time to find a new home - but the site is finally back, armed with a new domain name and tons of storage space.

There are a fair few updates which have been building up for the last couple of months - every page has had something done on it whether it be image additions or enhancements plus there's a new trim for the Thunderball pages.

I've finally completed the Junkanoo page after over 8 months, all thumbed with Photoshop - thanks to Blofelds Cat and his continuing support. Also, production artwork added to the Artwork page, thanks to Red Grant and the Ian Fleming page is now showing - this has taken me ages to compile! I've been sent the complete set of Somportex trading cards which is showing on its own page - could the exceptional person who sent me them please contact me because I haven't your name to credit you. Merged the Gunbarrel and Connery capture pages and added some new sounds to the Downloads page and re-done the book cover thumbs on the Words page.

Spanish DVD cover replaced with an improved Photoshop version - thanks to Eduardo Gimenez Gonzalez. Also to the Covers page I've added a Warner UK video cover and a better image of the 'Music Sheets'. Plus other improvements to layout and images that don't really warrant detail here.
